January Birchbox Review

Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that delivers 5 samples of makeup, skincare, or beauty products to your door. Each month, the products surround a central theme. This month's theme was "Let's Do This!" Most products are sample sizes, but a few full size products may be included. The value usually well exceeds the $10 you pay. This is my 2nd time receiving a Birchbox delivery, and I'm even happier this month than I was last month

First look:

I love the vibrant, festive packaging this month! It definitely helps brighten up these dreary winter days. Plus, it's totally different from last month's (equally) pretty packaging.

Luna was pretty excited to help me unbox everything and take pictures.

Each month, you receive a card detailing all of the samples you receive. This month I received 5 products plus 2 bonuses that weren't listed on the card.

Davines Oi Oil Absolute Beautifying Potion (Value $17.32)
Wow! What an excellent sample! It's not a full size, but it's still huge. Both B and I use serum when we straighten our hair or just to help control frizzies, so we were both really excited about this. It smells amazing! I haven't used it yet, but I can't wait. As a bonus, they included foil packs of shampoo and conditioner to go with this (not pictured). (Value $2.22)

Dr. Jart+ BB Premium Beauty Balm (Value $5.20)
I wasn't excited to see this included in my samples. I received nearly the same thing last month, and it didn't work great for me. It seems to get really great reviews on the Birchbox website, but it just didn't provide the level of coverage I was hoping for. I'm putting this into a basket I'm loading up for a future giveaway, so stay tuned if this sounds like something you'd like.

Harvey Prince Sincerely (Value $1.65)

I'm super picky about the perfume I wear, so I wasn't really all that thrilled to get this. It smells okay, it's just not me. I know, I know... that's one of the reasons I signed up for Birchbox- to try out new things. Perfume is one of those that I just can't shake, though. After I tried it on, B shriveled her nose and asked me to change shirts. Even my dog sniffed me and looked at me funny. Like I said, it smells good- just on someone else.

Naobay Body Radiance Lotion (Value $2.16)

This went on really smooth and I could feel it instantly start to soak in and moisturize. It was silky and luxurious. I'm torn between whether I like the scent or if it's a bit on the "mediciny" side, but I'll hang on to it.

the Balm Staniac "Beauty Queen" (Value $2.27)

I was really excited to get this for a few reasons. The Balm makes one of the best concealers I've ever used. When I first opened it, the color was a little intimidating. It's a bit more violet-red than it looks in the picture. To be honest though, I thought it was a lipgloss at first (I guess I'm not really good at reading directions. I jump right in.) and was kind of disappointed. Then I read the card they included (Birchbox is smart like that...) and realized it is intended as a cheek stain, but can also be used for lips. Let me tell you, the cheeks are where it's at. I don't normally go crazy with blush, but I could definitely see myself wearing this on a day when I'm going without full makeup but I just want a little bit of color on my cheeks. I normally wear BareMinerals foundation if I wear makeup, so I'm not sure how the liquid Staniac will pare with the powder foundation. We shall see.

Overall, I was really excited about this month's box. I definitely feel like I got my money's worth. Total estimated value: $30.82 On top of the great products, I was looking at my Birchbox points, and I have earned over 200 points so far just from placing my first order, sharing on social media once each month, and writing a short review about each product I received. The 200 points work out to a FREE $20 to spend in the Birchbox store. My boxes have already paid for themselves.

Convinced you want to try it? If you use my link, I will receive another 50 points. There are two different coupon codes you can try right now. If you use the code bbstore100, you get 100 points ($10) to spend in the store. If you use the code bbHELLO, you get 2 free extra samples with your first month. You can only use one of these codes at checkout, I believe.
